This afternoon, board your river cruise vessel and meet your crew at a welcome reception at 6 pm. (Dinner) Day 2 ViennaOnce the center of the mighty Habsburg Empire, Austria's capital has much to offer: lavish Hofburg Palace, the impressive Vienna Opera House, the majestic Ringstrasse, and awe-inspiring St. Stephen's Cathedral, to name just a few of the sights on your included tour. Shop in the Karntnerstrasse and enjoy Sachertorte or Apfelstrudel in a neighborhood cafe. An optional concert is available tonight. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Day 3 Durnstein-MelkDurnstein, known for the magnificent baroque Stiftskirche with its blue facade, lies right in the heart of the Wachau wine region. Above town are the ruins of the castle where England's King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. A Certified Local Guide will tell you the tale during your guided walk. Those seeking some sporting activity might like to join an optional bicycle excursion here (weather permitting), or you may just want to take a stroll through the narrow streets on your own. Then, cruise through the beautiful Wachau Valley to reach Melk after lunch. The magnificent BENEDICTINE ABBEY dominates the town from its commanding hill site, and is one of Europe's largest monasteries. This evening you'll be able to sample some of the region's FAMOUS WINES. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Day 4 Grein-LinzThis morning, arrive in the attractive country resort of Grein, which is nestled at the foot of a bluff in the shadow of its castle. Take a guided walk through the town and visit its unique historical THEATER, the oldest in Austria still holding regular performances. A behind-the-scenes peek to learn about some of the curiosities of this Rococo-style, 167-seat theater will certainly tell you much about life as it was, and as it now is, in this small town. Or, you may prefer to join one of a variety of optional excursions today. This afternoon, arrive in Linz, Austria's third-largest city and an important river port where culture plays a significant role in every day life. Composer Anton Bruckner lived here, and Mozart's Linzer Symphony was composed in the city. There is free time to explore on your own. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Day 5 Linz-Passau, GermanyToday, enjoy a relaxing morning of sailing along this most attractive stretch of the river from Linz. This afternoon, arrive in Passau, located at the confluence of the Rivers Inn, Ilz, and Danube. This is a city of graceful arcades and cobblestone streets. St. Stephen's Cathedral houses one of the world's largest church organs with more than 17,000 pipes. Join a Certified Local Guide for a walking tour through this charming town, and find out much more about the "City of Three Rivers." (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Day 6 Passau (Disembarkation)-MunichSay goodbye to your crew this morning and drive to Munich, capital of Bavaria. The afternoon is free for your own explorations or you might like to take an optional excursion to Salzburg, which will bring you to Munich in the late afternoon. (Breakfast) Day 7 MunichThis morning, a Certified Local Guide will show you the highlights of this fascinating city: Olympic Stadium, the 1,000-foot-high television tower, Nymphenburg Palace, MARIENPLATZ with its Old and New Town Halls, and the gothic Frauenkirche. Then, enjoy time on your own in this vibrant city. Why not visit the Viktualienmarkt with its Maypole that carries figurines featuring the arts and crafts of this region. This large market is popular for fresh produce, meats, cheeses, spices, baked goods, flowers, and more. Excursion to Neuschwanstein & OberammergauThis morning, drive into the garden-like landscapes of the Bavarian Alps and visit King Ludwig's fairytale NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE, situated high above the village of Hohenschwangau. Continue to the town of Oberammergau, famous for its once-a-decade production of the Passion Play. Enjoy free time here to stroll the streets and admire the typical Bavarian houses, many beautifully painted with scenes from fairytales. End your day with a visit to the smallest of King Ludwig's three castles-LINDERHOF PALACE, whose style was inspired by the Palace of Versailles outside Paris. Our volume buying power saves you money. We may be able to provide you with flight arrangements from your gateway city. Avalon Waterways offers 2 air options: Flex Air and Instant Purchase Air. Flex Air allows flexibility if you want to make changes to your vacation schedule. Instant Purchase Air may offer additional airline options but has more restrictions. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option.
Guaranteed air-inclusive prices: air is only available to passengers traveling from the United States and only available when booked in conjunction with a land vacation. An additional non-refundable air deposit ($250 per person for 2012 departures or $300 per person for 2013 departures) is required for Flex Air booked in conjunction with any land vacation (i.e. air-inclusive vacation). Air can only be booked by Avalon Waterways in conjunction with a vacation package. Instant Purchase Air requires air payment in full at time of booking (i.e. air-inclusive vacation) plus $30 per person non-refundable service fee. Once booked, Instant Purchase Air is non-refundable, and non-changeable. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option. However, once your airfare is confirmed and Avalon Waterways has received your full air and land deposit, your air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed. Air inclusive price quotes will include all government-imposed taxes and fees applicable at the time of booking and will be shown as a Total Amount. Additional airline fees for baggage may apply. At the time of booking your air-inclusive vacation online, carrier Websites will be provided to check baggage fees. The total airfare price, the base airfare price, and the applicable government taxes and fees are broken-out line-by-line and shown while booking online and on the invoice after your travel is booked. For return travel from some countries, international travelers are required to pay entry and/or exit fees at the airport. These fees will be collected by the local government and are payable by the traveler at time of travel. Your confirmation booking information will contain information about these fees. |
